Upcoming Events in Houston!

Happy Friday, bloggers! There are so many great things going on in Houston this weekend! Here are some events we think look the most entertaining for this weekend:

The Aspen Sante Fe Ballet is back in town for one night only! Tomorrow night they will be performing at the Society of Performing Arts. Here is the event description:

"In the years since its birth in 1995, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet (ASFB) has matured into a company that celebrates and advances the art of dance in every way. Their repertoire is as versatile as you'll find anywhere. And ASFB has become a leader in commissioning new works by the world's finest choreographers.
Just two years ago, this classically trained ballet troupe wowed Houston for the first time. Now they return with another unforgettable program including Nicolo Fonte's Where We Left Off set to a Philip Glass score and Jorma Elo's Over Glow to the music of Mendelssohn and Beethoven, which is sure to leave us applauding for more."

It's not every day you get a chance to experience the work of one of the great master artists of all time. You can do just that tonight and tomorrow at the Museum of Fine Arts during the two day exhibit of original work by Claude Monet. A lecture will also be given on the artist's love of japanese block prints and how they inspired his work. Click HERE for more information!

This weekend marks the last few nights that Disney's Beauty and the Beast broadway show will be in Houston at Broadway Across America. Don't miss out on your last chance to see this performance by clicking HERE to buy your tickets!
If you have some time take a look around www.visithoustontexas.com to find out about the Bonnie Rait concert at the Arena Theater, the kick off of CraftTexas 2012, and many more events happening the next couple of days! We hope you have a wonderful and safe weekend and thank you for visiting the blog!

Garbage Disposal Etiquette!

Ever wonder what you can and cannot put down the garbage disposal? Read up on the tips below to find great advice on this common maintenance issue!

Although your garbage disposer can grind up many kinds of discarded food items, there are some that will cause clogging because they can't be liquefied enough to pass through the drain trap and into the main sewer line. Items like chicken skins, carrots, celery, banana peels, potato peels spaghetti, and rice are too stringy and fibrous for the disposer to handle. Put those items into the garbage instead. When in doubt throw it out ;) To reduce the chance of clogging, run cold water not hot down the drain for about 15 seconds after using the disposer. Run hot water down the drain for a few minutes once a week to help remove any material that may cause a clog.

Feel free to share any other tips for garbage disposals in the comment box below! Thanks for visiting the blog and have a wonderful day!

What We've Been Up to!

Happy Tuesday everyone!!! Here's a quick glance at everything that was posted to our facebook page last week!

THIS was the apartment tip for Wednesday of last week. There you can find great ideas on using shelving for personalizing your rental space.
9/13:
We posted some great tips on how to clean your dishwasher properly and keep it in a great condition. The instructions are as follows:
  • Using a small brush (old toothbrushes work well) dipped in hot soapy water, go around the door of the dishwasher taking care to get into the grooves and crevices of the rubber seal. Most likely, you'll be surprised at the debris that has built up, especially at the bottom of the door and around the hinges on the side.
  • Then place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with plain white vinegar on the top rack of the dishwasher. Using the hottest water available, run the dishwasher through a cycle - except for the cup of vinegar, the dishwasher needs to be empty.
  • If you don't have any white vinegar, you may substitute a packet of unsweetened lemonade mix in the soap cup. Don't experiment with other flavors as they may stain the inside of your dishwasher.Baking soda is also effective at freshening and brightening your dishwasher. Just sprinkle a cupful around the bottom of the tub and run it through a short but complete cycle using the hottest water. Baking soda is also helpful in removing stains. Baking soda is great to keep in the fridge to get rid of odors.
